Disc Golf Course Design.
We are often told by cities that they have considered disc golf as an option but decided they do not have the facilities to support it.
However, We often find that there is a misconception or disconnect that people think disc golf is like ball golf and requires open spaces, lots of land movement, destruction of forested areas. Yet the opposite is true. Disc golf is low impact to the natural environment and requires minimal clearing in mature forests as seen in the picture to the right.
In fact, Installing a disc golf course can actually assist in the health of this forest as it will remove the smaller brush trees which are sapping nutrients from the mature trees. This will allow for an overall healthier forested area.
Why do I need a professional Designer?
Professional designers will visit your site multiple times spending days, weeks or in some cases, months making sure your site has the best design for your property before any work is done. They will discuss with you the best uses of your property and why one routing idea is preferred over another. Professionals such as ourselves have many years in the industry, hundreds or thousands of courses played, and their number one priority before all others is safety.
Anyone can draw lines on a map and call themselves a designer. Sadly, all too often a club, engineer, or scout will design and install a course with safety concerns, routing issues, or other things that make it problematic. This can all be avoided by hiring a professional from the start.
Are you affiliated with any disc golf design entities?
We are members of the Disc Golf Designers Group https://www.discgolfcoursedesigners.org/ As such we seek to learn from other designers and impart our knowledge to help grow the design community.
What primary services do you offer?
We offer turn-key course design, where we will design multiple potential layouts for your site. Once you pick the design, we will oversee your people or volunteers for the duration of the course installation. When the project in complete, we will provide a map to use on your website.
Additional design services include:
Site evaluations for environmental and safety issues.
Individual hole redesign to address safety, routing, or scoring issues.
What are the rates of your services?
Our rates vary depending on the amount of holes and tees being placed within the property, if we are completely designing from scratch or redesigning an old course for safety. Also the terrain and amount of trees we will work through in order to create the course will play into the price.
Besides design work is there anything else you offer as part of your design package?
We offer a full course drone walk-though which can be posted on your website and make available through google once it is complete.
Testimonials
What our customers write about us
We had initially hired an engineer to design our disc golf course as part of our 5-year parks plan. But, after showing Larry the map and having him walk through the site he expressed a number of safety concerns. Ultimately we hired Essential Discs to design the course and couldn’t be happier. Even after our installation in 2016, They have been responsive to our questions and continue to follow up with us as we progress with mitigating water issues caused by 100-year river floods.
We now have a steady stream of players coming through the park on a regular basis now in an area of the park which was previously unused.
Initially our course here in Lake Township, Mi was designed in 2 parts. the first 9 holes by a local disc golfer and the second 9 by an eagle scout.
After a number of years of little traffic and multiple bad reviews online, Mr. Leonardi approached us about redesigning our course and pointed out where the previous designers caused issues where discs where constantly being thrown over fences into another property, safety issues, and routing issues.
Essential Discs worked extensively with us for three years hosting multiple portable events to get community feedback before we ultimately settled on the new design. They went above and beyond for the services we paid for.
Now we have players coming from all over to play our course with weekly leagues and multiple tournaments every year.
Essential Discs was amazing to work with. They designed a 9-Hole course for us for a reasonable price and have had great follow-up service.
They came out and put up baskets across our park for a day before the final installation. There were many people who came out to pre-play the anticipated design and give feedback.
We decided it would be best to install the course in stages. The Essential designers set aside time with each installation phase to come out and monitor to make sure that everything got installed correctly and in the place it was designed for.
We had Essential help us with designing a course at our church. The ideas they came up with and safety concerns they brought up were some things we didn’t anticipate given the local club who had initially consulted.
They suggested making the course more family-friendly by creating additional teeing areas so that families, beginners, kids, and competitive players would all be able to enjoy the course.
We have seen additional growth in the church from people coming to play and it has been amazing to see all the kids that come through weekly on the course playing our shorest tees.
